The Jamaat Amir further said that in a democracy, victory does not simply go to the majority party; rather, it belongs to the people. He pledged to continue working to fulfill the demands of the public. He also announced that a new program would be unveiled soon and called for its implementation.
Other leaders at the gathering remarked that those claiming there is no provision for a referendum in the constitution are merely echoing Sheikh Hasina. They said that, after 54 years of independence, this Paltan gathering would mark a milestone in politics. The leaders emphasized that no delay in implementing the July Ordinance is acceptable and that no decisions will be taken without a referendum.
Earlier in the afternoon, leaders and activists marched from different parts of Dhaka to join the Paltan rally. Their demands included the issuance of a constitutional order for implementing the July National Ordinance, the introduction of the PR system, equal opportunity for all in elections, visible justice for atrocities, genocide, and corruption, and the banning of activities of the National Party and the 14-party alliance.
The gathering was attended by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Andolon Bangladesh, Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis, Khilafat Majlis, Nezame Islam Party, Bangladesh Khilafat Andolon, Bangladesh Development Party, and the National Democratic Party.
