On Saturday night (18 October), during a briefing with journalists at the airport, Brigadier General Mohammad Zahed Kamal, Director General of Fire Service, stated that the fire is completely under control and will not spread further. He mentioned that two firefighters and several Ansar members were injured.
“We will continue our efforts until the fire is fully controlled. Once under control, the responsibility will be handed over to the authorities,” he said.
Regarding the cause of the fire, he said it will be determined after investigation once the fire is extinguished. The main challenge in controlling the fire was the air flow. In open areas, the wind caused the fire to spread quickly. Additionally, the concrete walls and compartments inside the storage created obstacles in firefighting. Some cargo stored in open areas also allowed the fire to spread easily.
When asked whether the goods in storage were saved, he said, “Along with extinguishing the fire, we also worked to salvage items. Many goods were successfully recovered. Complete information will be shared later.”
Speaking about the security arrangements at the international airport, he said, “At this moment, not all information can be disclosed. Once the operation is complete, a comprehensive review will be conducted and information will be shared.”
