Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav’s close aide and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Yadav received death threats from dreaded international gangster Joginder Geong.
He received the call allegedly from Geong on his mobile number on Saturday (January 18, 2025) when he was busy in the RJD’s National Executive Committee meeting. Mr. Sanjay is also a political adviser to Mr. Tejashwi Yadav, who is Leader of Opposition in Bihar Legislative Assembly. Besides, the MP is also a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs.
While speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Sanjay said: “I received the call yesterday when we were busy in the meeting. He called and threatened me demanding ₹20 crore. He is an international gangster wanted in several criminal cases and murders. His younger brother Surender Geong was also a gangster and shot dead in a police encounter in 2017. It was an international call and I have registered a complaint at Sachivalaya police station.”
police official at Sachivalaya police station said that the First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged on Sunday. He further said: “He has threatened to harm and kidnap my family members if the ransom is not paid. He has given a deadline of 10 days.”
Wanted in several criminal cases, Geong is a native of Kaithal district in Haryana and last year he was arrested from his house in Bacolod city of Philippines. There are more than 16 cases against him in Haryana.
Mr. Sanjay, who was given the Rajya Sabha ticket by RJD only last year, works away from the limelight. Equipped with a good social and political understanding of Bihar, it is believed that the 40-year-old parliamentarian was instrumental in making the party more social media-friendly.
