A one-minute symbolic blackout will be observed across the country on March 25, Genocide Day, to honor the lives lost during the horrific events of 1971.The decision to observe the blackout was made during an inter-ministerial meeting held in Dhaka on Wednesday,, This year, the blackout will take place from to as a tribute to the first hour of darkness when the Pakistani military began its brutal "Operation Searchlight."
The blackout will exclude essential services and key performance indicators (KPIs) but will apply across all other areas, including important government, semi-government, autonomous, and private buildings.Additionally, foreign missions in Bangladesh will be exempt.
Chaired by Liberation War Affairs Adviser Faruk E Azam, the inter-ministerial meeting outlined the national program for Genocide Day and Independence and National Day observances.It was also decided that, unlike in previous years, there will be no arms exhibitions from March 23 to 31.March 25 marks a somber moment in Bangladesh’s history, with the Pakistani occupation forces conducting mass killings of students, teachers, and staff, particularly at Jagannath Hall of Dhaka University, The blackout serves as a solemn reminder of the atrocities committed on that fateful night
