Rizvi: A political party is stirring controversy over elections
Rohol kabir Rizvi

Without mentioning any specific party, BNP's Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Friday said that a political party is creating controversy over elections. He said that the party is arguing that local elections should be held first, followed by the parliamentary elections. Questioning this stance, he asked why such discussions are emerging.

Rizvi made these remarks as the chief guest at a prayer gathering organized by BNP on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat at BNP’s central office in Naya Paltan.Rizvi emphasized that it is the people who will determine who comes to power. He asserted that the 17-year-long struggle and movement have been aimed at restoring this power to the people.

He further said that it is the responsibility of the interim government to return this authority to the people. Therefore, he questioned why the debate over whether local elections should precede parliamentary elections is being raised. He reiterated BNP’s stance that parliamentary elections are a national election.

Rizvi said: "Through this election, political leaders will hold power, and the source of power is the people. If power is restored to the people, political forces will flourish. This political growth will ensure the proper conduct of all elections. However, a controversy has been created over whether local government elections should come before national parliamentary elections."

He metaphorically questioned: "Should the head come first or the tail? That must be determined. It is essential to decide which is the driving force. If the head remains intact, everything else will fall into place."Rizvi further warned that undermining political forces could lead to the rise of extremism, adding that extremism does not emerge solely from the left but also from the right, emphasizing the need to keep this in mind.
