The Bangladesh High Commission of Kuala Lumpur has welcomed the Bangladesh Under-19 women's cricket team who came to play in the T20 World Cup tournament in MalaysiaHigh Commissioner of Bangladesh appointed in Malaysia. Shamim Ahsan and his wife Pandora Chowdhury welcomed the cricketers. Apart from the 18 players of the Bangladesh team, members of the coaching staff including Bangladesh Cricket Board Director Nazmul Abedin, Malaysian National Cricket Team Captain Syed Aziz and the officials of the Bangladesh High Commission have joined their team. He was present at the reception with his wife.
In his address to the young cricketers, the High Commissioner said that cricket is playing a special role in increasing the status of Bangladesh in the world and also in bridging Bangladesh with other countries.
He recalled the leading role of the youth in the July-August uprising of Bangladesh and called upon the youth to play a greater role in the progress of the new Bangladesh born out of it.
He mentioned that the government led by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus is taking various initiatives to increase the participation of girls in the field of sports, which he believes will play an important role in branding Bangladesh in the international arena.
He expressed hope that the successful participation of Bangladeshi players in Malaysia will add a new dimension to Bangladesh's bilateral relations with this country. Finally, he wished Bangladesh success in the World Cup cricket competition.
Cricket team captain Sumaiya and senior officials of the board addressed the reception and expressed their sincere gratitude to the High Commission for organizing the reception in honor of Bangladesh U-19 women cricketers.
