The interim government of Bangladesh has announced significant changes to the uniforms of the Bangladesh Police, RAB, and Ansar forces.

This decision, aimed at shifting the mindset of law enforcement agencies, was disclosed following a meeting of the Law and Order Advisory Council Committee on Monday. Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury made the announcement in a press conference.

The move comes after widespread calls for reform within the police force, particularly in the wake of the fall of the Awami League government. Among these demands was the need for a new police uniform.

Under the new changes, the police will wear iron-colored uniforms, while RAB will adopt olive-colored attire. The Ansar force will be dressed in golden wheat-colored uniforms.

Jahangir Alam Chowdhury explained that the goal of these changes is to transform the mindset of the forces. "It is essential to change everyone’s mindset, and that's why we are altering the uniforms of the police, RAB, and Ansar," he said.

When asked about the timeline for these uniform changes, Jahangir Alam said: "The change will happen gradually."

In addition to the uniform changes, the Home Affairs Adviser also highlighted the need for a shift in police training to make the force more people-friendly.

The announcement was made in the presence of Social Welfare Adviser Sharmin S Murshid and Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Khoda Bakhsh Chowdhury.
