The largest ever number of Muslim candidates fielded by the BJP for the Uttarakhand local body elections are negotiating a tough campaign, as the polls come amidst preparations for implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state.

With more Muslim candidates than ever in state local polls, BJP talks of “development” undertaken by Centre and state govts, tries to explain the “benefits” of UCC to voters,
The largest ever number of Muslim candidates fielded by the BJP for the Uttarakhand local body elections are negotiating a tough campaign, as the polls come amidst preparations for implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state.
The over 50 candidates of the community fielded by the BJP are therefore focusing on “development” undertaken by BJP governments both at the Centre and in the state, including for the minorities, and hoping the electorate will look past UCC fears.
“Our campaign is based on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’. Since 2014 (when Modi came to power), Muslims too have been getting benefits of welfare schemes like free rations and housing, and Ayushman Bharat Yojana. The community has realised that they should not overlook progress in the name of religion. We are sure our Muslim candidates will win,” state BJP minority wing president Intezar
