The Chhatra Dal has protested against a press conference of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir at Dhaka University’s Madhur Canteen, saying it will tarnish the spirit of the Liberation War.
The Chhatra Dal’s central committee voiced this protest in a statement on Sunday following Shibir’s press conference.said Madhur Canteen, the historical birthplace of student politics at Dhaka University, was founded by Madhusudan Dey, who was martyred on March 25, 1971, during Operation Searchlight conducted by the Pakistani occupation forces.
The BNP's student wing added that the Jamaat-e-Islami and its then-student unit, Islami Chhatra Sangha, collaborated with the Pakistani forces and played an anti-independence role during the Liberation War.As the Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Sangha—later renamed Islami Chhatra Shibir—were morally responsible for the martyrdom of Madhusudan Dey, they must take accountability for it, the Chhatra Dal said The statement also mentioned that the press conference organized by Shibir, the student wing of the "anti-independence organization" Jamaat-e-Islami, at Madhur Canteen, is disrespectful to the memory of martyr Madhusudan Dey and his family.The Chhatra Dal said it strongly condemns and protests against the event held by Shibir at Madhur Canteen.
In a joint statement, Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir said allowing the associates of the killers to roam in a martyr’s own space is a disgraceful act.They asserted that Shibir should refrain from coming to Madhur Canteen out of remorse and conscieThe two Chhatra Dal leaders further said that after the martyrdom of countless people, including Madhusudan Dey, during Operation Searchlight, late president Ziaur Rahman, Bir Uttam, declared the great independence of Bangladesh.
However, Shibir has continuously disrespected the Liberation War by portraying it as an Indian conspiracy and dishonouring the brave freedom fighters and martyrs, they added.The presence of Chhatra Shibir at Madhur Canteen will tarnish the history of the great Liberation War, they reiterated.
