Police wield batons to disperse MATS protesters in DhakaPolice have cracked down on protesting students of the Medical Assistant Training School as they marched towards the Secretariat to press for several demands, including employment opportunities.The protesters were in front of the Education Building when police began charging batons at them around 4:15pm on Sunday.

Police are beating us with sticks.”The protest began around 11:30am, when MATS students blocked the road near the National Museum in Shahbagh, announcing their intention to march toward the Directorate General of Health Services or the Health Ministry.Around 2pm, Tuhin Farabi, an aide to the health advisor, arrived at the scene to talk with the demonstrators. Following discussions, he and several representatives from the Government MATS Students Oikya Parishad went to the Secretariat.

Later, around 3:30pm, Farabi provided an update, saying, "We are at the Secretariat, speaking with officials. They've assured us that a notice will be issued by tomorrow or the day after. Let’s see what happens.The protest follows an earlier demonstration on Jan 22, when MATS students blocked Shahbagh with four demands. They initially called off their movement after assurances from the Health Ministry, but with no significant progress beyond a letter being issued, they returned to the streets.
